C-Banded Karyotype and Nucleolar Organizer Regions (NORs) of Wild Boar, Sus scrofa (Artiodactyla: Suidae) from Anatolia

چکیده
The present study reports the karyotype, C-banding, and nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) of 6 Sus scrofa (Linnaeus, 1758) males from Anatolia. The karyotype of S. scrofa comprised (2n) 38 chromosomes, the number of chromosomal arms (FN) was 64, and the number of autosomal arms (FNa) was 60. C-positive regions appeared to be restricted to the centromeric regions of autosomes 1, and 13-18, and the entire long arm of the Y chromosome. Some autosomes had very slight C-bands. The X chromosome appeared to be entirely euchromatic. NORs were identified by the silver-staining technique and were observed on secondary constriction sites of 2 metacentric chromosomes pairs.

Karyotype, C-banding and nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) characteristics of nine Rana ridibunda samples collected from Konya (Meram, Beyşehir, Hadim) province were examined. The diploid number of chromosomes (2n) and the fundamental number of chromosome arms (FN) were determined as 26 and 52, respectively. All of the chromosomes of this species have centromeric constitutive heterochromatin (...
متن کاملChromosome number polymorphism in a litter of European wild boar (Sus scrofa scrofa L.)
Populations of wild boar (Sus scrofa scrofa L.) of Central Europe frequently demonstrate polymorphism in chromosome number. This phenomenon is caused by chromosome rearrangements of the centric fusion type. The presence of Robertsonian translocations in the wild boar population may lead to one of three different karyotypes: 2n=36, 2n=37 and 2n=38. The aim of the study was to analyse the karyoty...
متن کاملBrucella suis infection in domestic pigs and wild boar in Croatia.
Between the years 2000 and 2004, 93,107 sera from 1,997 pig herds in 11 regions of Croatia were tested for the presence of antibodies against brucellosis. Positive results were observed in 67 herds from seven regions (mean individual prevalence: approximately 1%; herd prevalence: 3.4%). The herds from all but two of the infected farms were reared outdoors and thus almost certainly came into con...

The Polish White Improved goat karyotype consists of 29 pairs of acrocentric autosomes, a large acrocentric X chromosome and a metacentric Y chromosome which is the smallest in the karyotype. Staining of chromosomes with AgNO3 solution has revealed active nucleolar organizer regions (NOR) in terminal parts of q arms of pair 2, 3, 4, 5, and 28 chromosomes. Out of the total of 100 analysed cells ...
متن کاملUnravelling the complexity of domestication: a case study using morphometrics and ancient DNA analyses of archaeological pigs from Romania
Current evidence suggests that pigs were first domesticated in Eastern Anatolia during the ninth millennium cal BC before dispersing into Europe with Early Neolithic farmers from the beginning of the seventh millennium. Recent ancient DNA (aDNA) research also indicates the incorporation of European wild boar into domestic stock during the Neolithization process. In order to establish the timing...
